2020 – A LOOK BACK ON THE 6th EDITION OF THE RALLY MEGEVE

Even though postponed from June to September, the 6th edition of the Rallye Megève – St Tropez took place in excellent conditions, thanks to the endorsement and unwavering support of government and local authorities, who have never ceased to help us. support in compliance with health safety standards imposed by the current situation.

IN EXCEPTIONAL CONDITIONS, EXCEPTIONAL ROUTE

It was under bright sunshine and very mild temperatures that the 62 crews met on Monday 14 September for the traditional day of administrative checks scheduled for Place de la Marie in Megève.

A prologue was drawn, in the afternoon, not far from the Megève Altiport for a “discovery” visit of the Pilatus PC12 Jetfly, around a cocktail officially launching the participants in the assault of the 3 stages, 900km, and the 14 passes to be crossed in this 2020 edition, with a lot of new features.

NEW ROUTE THROUGH VAL D’ISÈRE AND COL DE L’ISERAN

For the first stage, the itinerary concocted by Cyril Neveu offered, as an appetizer, the Col des Saisies and the Cormet de Roselend to reach the Tarentaise valley where the first lunch of the rally was organized.

The caravan then headed to the top of the famous Col de l’Iseran and its passage at 2770m never covered since 2015. The Col du Galibier, usually lined with walls of snow in June, then offered a splendid panorama of barren mountains before descending towards Bourg d’Oisans and tackle the ascent of the legendary hairpins of Alpe d’Huez.

MONT-CENIS AND EXCURSION TO ITALY BEFORE REACHING SERRE CHEVALIER

The second stage proposed the Col de la Croix de Fer to find the Maurienne valley via the Col du Mollard, another unique passage, then Modane and its Fort Marie-Thérèse where lunch was held, erected in the heart of this medieval fortress, imprinted by the glorious past of the region.

A new pass was then offered on the course, the Mont-Cenis, to lead us to Italy for a few kilometers, before reaching the citadel of Briançon, and finally Serre Chevalier, the end of this stage with its steep drop.

MERCANTOUR PARK AND ARRIVAL WITH GREAT FANFARE IN SAINT-TROPEZ

The final stage towards Saint-Tropez announced the crossing of the Col d’Izoard then the ascent of the Col de Vars before entering the Mercantour National Park which welcomed us again during the passage at the top of the very steep Col de la Cayolle.

The competitors then enjoyed a picnic around Petrossian products before going along the Daluis gorges and its countless tunnels cut into the ocher rock. A few small passes in the Var hinterland along the Verdon then led to the astonishing azure blue color of Lake Castillon which marked the close arrival in the Massif des Maures.

As the Rally drew to a close, with the traditional triumphant arrival at the Port of Saint-Tropez and then stopping at the no less famous Place des Lices, hallmark of the Megève-Saint-Tropez Rally; the entire CNP team celebrated the big winners who dominated the head and shoulders this 6th edition. A magnificent performance that will have been appreciated by the many crews launched after them!
