2020 – STAGE 1 / 15 SEPTEMBER : MEGEVE – L’ALPE D’HUEZ

Rally Megève – St-Tropez,
6th edition postponed to 14-17 september 2020

1st Stage / Megève – Alpe d’Huez

It is still under a radiant sun that, this morning, the rally took the direction of Alpe d’Huez by traversing a new route proposing as an appetizer the Col des Saisies and the Cormet de Roselend, which are compulsory passages to reach the Tarantaise valley and the first passage control. Once in Bourg-St-Maurice, the participants climbed the first switchbacks of the Col du Petit-Saint-Bernard to reach Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise where lunch was organized, before resuming the road to Val d’Isère and the famous Col de l’Iseran and its passage at 2770m. Since its creation, the Megève-Saint-Tropez Rally had never traveled through this impressive giant of the Alps with sumptuous scenery. After a few kilometers in the Maurienne valley and another coffee break, we had to climb in turn the Col du Télégraphe then the Col du Galibier, the other big part of this first stage. Usually still lined with walls of snow in June, it was this time pleasant to discover this road and these bare mountains. The Col du Lautaret followed immediately before descending to Bourg d’Oisans and tackling the 21 switchbacks of the Alpe d’Huez climb, dear to cyclists all over the world, the end of this first stage. See you tomorrow for the second stage of the Rally which will link L ‘Alpe d’Huez to Serre Chevalier via Italy.
